Gwynedd Valley, Pa - Cairn's men's soccer team traveled to Gwynedd-Mercy College in a tough Colonial States Athletic Conference match.
Box Score
In an even match throughout with neither team able to gain control of proceedings, the teams went into hafltime dead even at 0-0. Both teams recorded 5 shots in the first half.
The complexion of the game would change just three minutes after coming out of the break. Off of a Griffins corner kick, Rich Mychak time his unmarked run into the box perfectly to meet the ball and giving
Dave Shaffer no chance in the Highlanders goal. The Griffins then played defensively through the remainder of the game, doing well limiting Cairn's attack and counter-attacking to the tune of 7 second half shots. Despite holding a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks, the Highlanders were only able to generate 4 second half shots and unable to find the game-tying goal.
Both
Glodi Konga and
Joran Hays unleashed 3 shots each for Cairn. David Shaffer made 5 saves on the day.
Cairn slips to 3-4 in conference play but hold on to their 5th place spot so far. Gwynedd-Mercy moves into a tie for 6th place now at 2-4-1.
Cairn gets little rest before their next game. On Monday, the Highlanders travel to Wesley College in a non-conference match before a crucial final couple of days to finish the regular season.
