Camden, NJ - NCAA Div. III #6-ranked Rutgers-Camden used three second half goals to break open a staunch Highlanders defense.
Cairn held the nationally ranked Raptors scoreless for 55 minutes before Camden's Corey Beltran sent a rocket into the upper corner, giving Rutger's a 1-0 lead. Over the next three and a half minutes, the Raptors would extend the lead to 3-0. Mike Ryan took a feed from Mitch Grotti two minutes after the first goal and gave the Raptors an insurance goal, going up 2-0. Camden continued to pressure and just over a minute later, it was 3-0. Mitch Grotti added to his earlier assist with the teams third goal.
The Raptors continued pressing throughout the remainder of the game, but the Highlander backline was able to right the ship and repel all other Camden attacks.
The first half was where Cairn found their best chances to score. Senior defender
Jon Minnema blasted a free-kick just over the crossbar in just the 2nd minute of play, while junior forward
Gary Bruce found space in the 32nd minute just inside the penalty area only to fire his shot wide of the goal.
Dave Shaffer had a solid game in net for Cairn, making 10 saves on the night and keeping the game as close as it was.
The Highlanders fall to 3-5-2 on the year, whereas Rutgers-Camden moves to 9-2.
