Langhorne, PA - Cairn University's men's soccer team exploded for 8 goals on Thursday afternoon against visiting Valley Forge Christian College.

Seven different players scored for the Highlanders. Sophomore's
Daniel Morrison and
Kevin Novalski each notched their first goals of the season, with Novalski's especially being an impressive half-volley from 18-yards out. Morrison added 2 assists to go along with his goal. Freshmen
Phil Knower and
Craig Kikendall each scored their first career goals today as well. It was a sweet moment for Kikendall who has missed a good chunk of the season through injury and marks his return to full fitness.
Gary Bruce and
Seth Mangum each notched one goal apiece while junior playmaker
Cody Mosely recorded two goals.
Dave Shaffer and
Joseph Gerberich combined for the shutout in net, each playing 45 minutes and benefitting from the suffocating defense of
Jon Minnema,
Andrew Gordon,
Jeremy McAlack, and
Ben Cardillo. Gerberich recorded the first two saves of his career.
Cairn outshot the Patriots 39-3 and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The win improves the Highlanders to 6-7-3 with a playoff crucial match against conference rival Gwynedd-Mercy coming up on Saturday. The match is scheduled for 1pm at Gwynedd-Mercy. In last season's fixture, the Highlanders had a good 70-30 advantage in possession and dominated for large portions of the game but were unable to overcome an early Griffins goal as GMC held on for a 1-0 win.
