Langhorne, PA - Cairn University and Lancaster Bible College finished all tied 1-1 after 110 minutes in Tuesday's men's soccer match.
Box Score
A pair of second half goals less than two minutes apart was all the scoring that either the Highlanders or Chargers could muster. The first half was fairly uneventful with the half ending scoreless. The best opportunity came in the first ten minutes when
Seth Mangum sent in a driven cross to the back post that found a streaking
Ahron Park, but Park was unable to make a clean connection as the ball fell harmlessly wide of the goal.
The second half saw more action as the Highlanders unleashed 12 shots, but it was the visitors who struck first. LBC's Bradley Wilcox broke free from his marker in the 64th minute and slotted his breakaway goal to the far post, giving the Chargers a 1-0 lead. It wouldn't last though. Just over a minute and a half later, senior forward Seth Mangum reacted quickest to a loose ball at the top of the box and raced in on goal, chipping the ball over LBC's goalie, Tim Landis Jr., with a collision ensuing. With the ball headed for the goal, two Charger defenders and Cairn's
Gary Bruce scrambled to reach the ball first, with Bruce winning out and knocking the ball home.
With the score now tied 1-1, the Highlanders used their subs to tire out Lancaster and took control of the game in the final 20 minutes of regulation, but were unable to find the go-ahead goal. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in either overtime period, with Cairn holding a 5-2 advantage in overtime shots, and settling for the draw.
There were some fireworks at the final whistle though, with some "handbags" being thrown around, but all that was hurt were a few egos.
