LANGHORNE, PA - The Crimson Eagle's Men's Basketball team returned from the holiday break to take on non-conference opponent Penn St.-Brandywine but came up short, 68-59.
It had been four weeks since PBU's last game back on December 10, 2011. It was expected to have some rustiness coming back but you never know what to expect after a break that long between games... or how much holiday food the players took in. Although not at their best, PBU kept it pretty close throughout the first half. The Crimson Eagles led early in the game and then again 24-23, with only 3:20 left in the first half. The entire half was played within single digit leads.
However, the Lions closed out the half on a 10-0 run to take a 33-24 lead into halftime and their largest lead of the night.
The second half started with Penn St.-Brandywine continuing their good run, building a 15 point lead only 2 minutes into the 2nd half. 4 minutes later and PBU had cut the lead back down to 6 thanks to an 11-2 swing. But the Crimson Eagles were finding it increasingly difficult to stop the Lions Rasheed Wilkins. Wilkins dropped 15 second half points and 26 for the game.
After a couple of runs by both teams, with the lead reaching 12 points and back down to 4, time simply ran out on the Crimson Eagles. Penn St.-Brandywine eventually held on for the 68-59 win. PBU now falls to 3-7.
Senior forward
Charles Kennedy (Philadelphia, PA / Roxborough), making his first start of the season, and freshman forward
Seth Heinicke (Ivyland, PA / Calvary Christian) led the Crimson Eagles with 12 points apiece. Also making his first start of the season was sophomore guard
Aaron Stovall (Norfolk, VA / Calvary Christian) who knocked down two 3-pointers for 6 points.
The men's team will take part in a double-header this Saturday with the women's team as they both take on long-time rivals Baptist Bible College at BBC. The men's game starts at 3pm.
