Box Score
LANGHORNE, PA - PBU's Men Soccer team came out 2-1 winners in their match against the Tigers of SUNY-Cobleskill.
The men outshot their opponents 21-9 and applied pressure throughout the match, wearing down SUNY-Cobleskill. They would leave it late though, but PBU forward Gary Bruce would record a brace with his second goal being the game-winner. At the 80th minute, some quick foot work and determination found junior Seth Mangum in behind the Tiger defense and bearing down on Cobleskill keeper Brian Faulkner. He coolly slipped the ball into the path of Bruce who slammed the ball home.
However, for the second straight game the men gave up an early goal. Cobleskill teammates Tyler Chapin and Mark Gaetano would combine to open the scoring in the 10th minute. PBU solidified their backline and were able to start mounting the pressure.
The equalizer came in the 18th minute when PBU combined well to create an opening for junior midfielder Joran Hays to play a perfectly weighted ball through to the always onrushing Gary Bruce who buried it in typical Bruce-style.
PBU was able to rely on a host of substitutes to put in quality minutes and wear down the visitors. Freshman Daniel Morrison, Justin Nolan, Paul Hughes, Nate Woodcock, junior Kyle Rosol, and senior Wayne Peiffer provided energy and bite off the bench. Freshman Seth Richardson made his first start in his young collegiate career.
PBU keeper Dave Shaffer was called upon 3 times during the match to make saves, but also managed to record a shot.
PBU takes on Widener next Wednesday, at 4pm. Widener won last year's contest 1-0, and leads the all-time series.
