Early Goal Sinks PBU

Boxscore

LANGHORNE, PA
- Gwynedd-Mercy's goal in the 22nd minute is all they would need to defeat PBU.

Early goals seem to be the Achilles heel of this PBU team. Six times in nine games the Crimson Eagles have given up goals in the first 22 minutes. Today proved no different.

The Griffin's Dan Panepresso scored an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute to give Gwynedd-Mercy a 1-0 lead. As it turned out, it would end up being the game-winner.

The Crimson Eagles did control almost the entirety of the 2nd half, but were unable to create a goal.

PBU Head Coach Scott Fogarty had this to say after the game: "We came out flat to start the game and again we paid for it. We struggled to move the ball in the first half, our passing was atrocious, and gifted them 45 minutes. Once we got going in the second half, the damage had been done and they could sit back. We were patient and able to create some dangerous situations, but our final ball let us down. I have to give my kids credit, they didn't panic and stayed patient. We just didn't dig ourselves out like we have in the past. That will happen though when you continue to give the initiative to the other team to start a game."

Junior Seth Mangum gave the Griffins backline a tough time, especially in the 2nd half. Mangum carved out a shooting opportunity for himself midway through the half, but saw his low-drive go just wide of the far post. The Crimson Eagles Jeremy McAlack was able to get his head on the end off a Mangum corner, but watched his goal-bound effort saved by Gwynedd-Mercy keeper, Mike Leonard.

Senior captain, Justin Hays, was finding space between the Griffin defenders and was able to take on defenders but was unable to find that killer ball that was needed.

The Crimson Eagles return to the pitch in 3 days when they will take on CSAC and NCCAA East-Region rivals Baptist Bible College. The match is Saturday, October 1st, for PBU's Homecoming. Kick-off is scheduled for 3pm.
