SCRANTON, PA - PBU's Men's Soccer team came very close to stealing some points from one of the favorites in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, but succumbed to a well taken free-kick in overtime against Marywood.
The Crimson Eagles put up a valiant fight for 90 minutes against Marywood, but in the first ovetime at the 92nd minute, Marywood senior defender Ryan Jones found the back of net with a direct kick. The Pacers were awarded a free-kick about 22 yards out shortly after starting the extra stanzas. As Jones took the direct-kick, PBU keeper Dave Shaffer was screened by several players making runs across the box and failed to spot the ball in time to stop it from finding the back of the net.
Despite the loss, the Crimson Eagles can take some positives out of the match. Last season, Marywood came a penalty shoot-out away from qualifying for the NCAA National Tournament, only losing out to CSAC power Neumann University.
PBU's task doesn't get any easier as they look to rebound against CSAC defending champions Neumann University. The match takes place Tuesday, September 20th. The game starts at 6:30 pm at Neumann University.
