LANGHORNE, PA - It finally happened. On the final day of the season, the Crimson Eagles collected their first and ultimately only win of the season, downing the College of Notre Dame during the opening contest of the two game series with the Gators.
Junior hurler Kim Martin was masterful from the circle for the host group allowing just a single hit during the squad's first win since April 22nd of a year ago. Martin gave up just two walks while striking out five en route to a 2-1 win for the Crimson Eagles as PBU allowed just a single run during the top of the third.
Down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the host squad pieced together a two run burst thanks to a pair of walks coupled with two singles in the frame. With a one run cushion, Martin would do the rest of the work from the mound, blanking the Gators down the stretch to help give the Crimson Eagles their first win of the year.
Emily Laudenslager paced PBU with two hits and a walk in the winning effort while Sara Poole and Martin each added a single knock.
The Crimson Eagles weren't able to duplicate their success during the nightcap as Notre Dame kept the host group at arms length throughout the contest, prevailing 5-4.
PBU was flustered with five errors on the defensive side of the ball and watched the Gators' bats come alive as the green and yellow put up eight hits in the second tilt despite nine strikeouts from Martin.
Jessica Heck led the Crimson Eagles in the batter's box with two hits from the lead-off spot.
The softball team concludes the year with a 1-27 overall record.
