LANGHORNE, PA - Thanks to a handful of postponements and cancellations, the softball squad finally was able to play on their home turf Friday afternoon. But unfortunately Marywood didn't cooperate during PBU's home opener as the Pacers pulled out wins of 15-1 and 12-3.
The Pacers jumped out from the get-go, logging three scores in the opening stanza of the first game on four hits. PBU countered with a solo run during the bottom of the frame, but the visitors answered with 11 runs over the next two innings to break open the contest.
Marywood connected for 15 hits in the game and boasted three players that ripped off three hits for the contest. After putting up two singles during the opening period, the Crimson Eagles managed just a single knock the rest of the way.
Leading 4-2 heading into the top of the fourth of game two, another big inning from the Pacers helped the visitors snap any hope of a Crimson Eagle upset. Marywood battered around six hits en route to a seven run stanza to go up 11-3.
The host group's bats awoke during the second game as PBU pounded out eight hits for the contest but it wasn't enough to combat 14 total hits from the Pacers.
The softball team will get back to action on Saturday during a doubleheader on the road with Neumann University beginning at 10:00 am.
