HACKETTSTOWN, PA – Centenary College used an early spurt Tuesday evening to open up a 17-5 lead over the first five minutes, helping the group cruise during an eventual 75-57 triumph over the Crimson Eagles.
The Cyclones knocked down seven triples in the opening stanza to help rip open a 42-28 halftime edge en route to the squad’s third straight CSAC win.
PBU managed to dwindle the gap to as little as 10 midway through the back end of play but failed to overcome the hurdle down the stretch as Centenary muscled down 21 offensive boards to help keep the Crimson Eagles at arm’s length.
The visitors shot just 36.1 percent from the field for the contest while hitting only six of 11 charity stripe tosses throughout the 40 minute affair. The Cyclones utilized a 27-11 edge in bench points and had four players go off for double-digit points during the group’s eighth triumph of the season.
PBU struggled to stop the host squad from long range with Centenary going off for 11 three pointers on 40.7 percent shooting from deep.
The Crimson Eagles received a game high 17 points to go with seven boards from junior Claude Chalk while Jeff Bishop added 11 points, 10 boards, and six assists. Adam Derus chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds in the losing effort.
The basketball squad will return to the court on Thursday during a skirmish with Gwynedd-Mercy College. Game time in the Mason Activity Center will begin at 8:00 pm.
