LANGHORNE, PA – PBU’s Men’s Basketball team got their 2011-2012 season off to a good start with a 62-35 victory over the visiting Fighting Blue Jays from Polytechnic University.
The win breaks a 27-game losing streak for the Crimson Eagles dating back to the 2009-2010 season. The loss continues a 38-game losing streak for Polytechnic.
PBU jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead in the game’s opening minutes and never looked back. The Crimson Eagles held a 27-16 lead at halftime and looked even more impressive in the 2
nd half. The team shot 55.6% from the field in the 2
nd and really began to pull away from the Blue Jays, breaking out to a 20 point margin early on.
The Crimson Eagles were led by the inside-out duo of
Adam Derus (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township) and
Wendell Torres (Erie, PA / East). Derus shot 7 for 12 from the floor, including three 3-pointers, to lead all scorers with 18 points. Torres finished with 16 points and dominated on the boards, grabbing 17 total rebounds. He also had 4 blocks to round out his night.
PBU held the advantage in almost every category, including rebounds (36 to 27) and blocks (7 to 0).
The Crimson Eagles shot 49% for the game and held Polytechnic to 28%.
Senior forward Charles Kennedy
(Philadelphia, PA / Roxborough) marked his return to the court with a 12 point effort.
Jeremy Pearson (Detroit, MI / Stevenson) ran point for the Crimson Eagles and set up three baskets.
It was a good first win of the season for the Crimson Eagles to get the monkey off their back after going 0-25 last season.
Next up, the basketball team will travel to Chicago, IL to take part in the Moody Bible Tournament. PBU plays Moody Bible Friday, November 18 at 8pm.
