LANGHORNE, PA - The Crimson Eagles hosted Delaware Valley College and Gwynedd-Mercy College in a tri-match on Wednesday.
In the first match, the Crimson Eagles took on the Aggies of Delaware Valley College. PBU came into the day with an 11-9 record. The Aggies rolled into Langhorne with a 12-4 record.
PBU got their day started off on the right foot, taking the first set 25-20 on the back of some decent attacking, with a .216 attacking percentage. The Crimson Eagles lost their momentum in the 2nd game. Finishing with a dismal -.057 attack percentage, PBU only managed 5 kills in the 2nd set. The Aggies would tie the match up at 1-1, winning 25-16.
PBU's offense got going again in the third set, but couldn't quite match Del Val's. The Aggies came up with 14 kills with only 2 errors, helping them to a 25-17 third set win. The Crimson Eagles had 12 kills on 4 errors in the third.
Delaware Valley would secure the win in the 4th set, 25-17 again. While their offense dipped a bit down the stretch, it was enough to hold off any PBU rally.
PBU, now heading into their 2nd match of the day against Colonial States Athletic Conference foe Gwynedd-Mercy, were 11-10 but hoping to improve their conference record which stood at 2-2.
The Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy entered the day at 4-7 overall, 1-2 in CSAC.
The first game looked set to go down to the wire, with the score knotted at 21 a piece, but PBU was able to jump out to a 1-0 by taking the final 4 points of the game. PBU managed 14 kills on 37 attacks, registering only 4 errors. Good enough for a .270 attack percentage.
The second game would prove even deadlier. With the score tied at 13 all, the Crimson Eagles would close out the game on a 12-3 run. It would only take 22 attacks to win the set, on 10 kills. It would prove to be their most efficient attacking set at .364.
In the third set, the Crimson Eagles tried to pull away but couldn't really turn anything into a comfortable lead. The Griffins were always lurking around, trailing behind by only 3 or 4 points throughout the game. PBU would build a 6 point lead at 20-14, but saw it dwindle to 21-18. The ladies closed up shop though, and finished off the Griffins 25-18.
PBU will travel up the Northeast Extension this Saturday, October 8th to take on CSAC opponent Keystone. The match starts at 3:30pm.
