LANGHORNE, PA - Philadelphia Biblical University defeated Centenary College 1-0 off of an early goal from sophomore forward Gary Bruce.
Bruce (Nottingham, England) scored what turned out to be the game winner after only 11 minutes. Junior forward Seth Mangum found his shot saved by Cyclones keeper Jason Rogers, but Bruce was on hand to knock home the rebound.
Although the Crimson Eagles were outshot 17-12 on the day, they managed more shots on target, which has often been the story of the season. PBU had 7 shots on frame to Centenary's 6.
Gary Bruce managed 3 shots, 2 on target. Seth Mangum (Souderton, Pa) recorded 2 shots, with his one shot on target setting up the game-winner. Senior captain Justin Hays (Heiloo, Netherlands) also had 2 shots. Sam Hunter (Williamsport, Pa), Justin Nolan (Philadelphia, Pa), Dave Simon (Littleton, NH), and Jeremy McAlack (Newtown, Pa) all recorded 1 shot apiece.
PBU Keeper Dave Shaffer (Denver, Pa) came up with 6 saves to record his 2nd shutout of the season.
The win moves PBU to 7-8; 3-5 in the CSAC. The Crimson Eagles have one more CSAC game left against Cabrini College. It is a must win if PBU is to have a shot at making the CSAC post-season.
Before that match though, PBU will face NCCAA East-Region foe Valley Forge Christian College this Saturday. The match will be in Phoenixville, Pa with kick-off scheduled for 4:00pm.
