Late Lead Slips Away During 78-69 Loss

Box Score

LANGHORNE, PA - Ahead by six with five minutes left, things quickly went south for the Crimson Eagles Thursday evening. Rosemont College used timely shooting and several clutch free throws to ultimately pull out a 78-69 victory over their counterpart.

With 15 ties and/or lead changes over the course of 40 minutes of action, neither team could create much separation throughout the seesaw affair.

Rosemont jumped out to a 7-2 lead three minutes in but would see PBU battle back to take a 23-19 edge with eight minutes left in the opening stanza. The Ravens closed out the frame on a 19-11 run to take a 38-26 lead into the back end of play.

The visitors once again pushed their margin to seven three minutes into the final 20 minutes but would see the gap slowly evaporate thanks to a 14-3 Crimson Eagle spurt midway through the period. But up by six with five minutes to play, Rosemont closed out the game by hitting 15 of 16 charity strip attempts down the stretch to help overcome the deficit and fend PBU off in the waning moments.

The Ravens ended up shooting 40 free throws on the night by the time all was said in done, a staggering number when compared with only 13 attempts from the host group.

The Crimson Eagles shot a respectable 46.6 percent from the floor for the game but couldn't slow down Rosemont forward Harrison Carsillo who exploded for 31 points in 39 minutes of action.

Sophomore guard Adam Derus paced PBU with 23 points on 10 of 14 shooting while freshman Jeff Bishop added 19 points and four blocks. Third year guard Claude Chalk chipped in with 11.

The basketball team will continue their search for their first win of the season on Saturday during a skirmish with Immaculata University at 3:00 pm.
