Crimson Eagles Subdued by Cobleskill

Box Score

COBLESKILL, NY
- Although the Crimson Eagles didn't come out on top Saturday afternoon, the group did manage to find some solace during the back end of play against SUNY Cobleskill.

After falling behind 3-0 midway through the second frame, the men's soccer team finally broke through on the offensive end, netting their first score of the season during the 81st minute.

Sophomore Joran Hays drilled a rocket 12 yards out from the right side of the box, slipping the ball past Cobleskill keeper Patrick Cobane to help erase PBU's scoreless start to the year.

The host group tallied two goals in the opening stanza, notching a pair of scores within a three minute time-frame to break open a previously empty-net outing.

"It was a game of two halves," surveyed head coach Scott Fogarty. "In the first, we allowed Cobleskill way too much time and space and we paid for it. They dictated the first stanza and were able to put 2 in the back of our net."

The Fighting Tigers would tack on an insurance tally midway through the second half on a free kick blast from 35 yards out, bumping the count to 3-0.

"We made some adjustments and after the break, we came out flying and really took it to them. A good portion of the second half was spent in their end trying to find a way to get ourselves on the scoresheet."

Despite heavy offensive pressure from the visitors during the back end of play that included 11 second half shots, SUNY Cobleskill's starting goalkeeper Mack Curran proved effective throughout , stifling each opportunity that arose from the Crimson Eagles.

"I'm not thrilled with the result as we've come away feeling like we let this one get away from us early on. But the guys are still adjusting to a new system, which always takes time. And it's still a young team and a young season. We're going to continue to build so we're ready for our CSAC conference and NCCAA East Region play."

PBU slips to 0-2 with the loss while SUNY Cobleskill improves to 1-0.

The soccer team will continue their search for their first win of the season on Monday, taking on Penn State Abington on the road at 7:00 pm.
