PBU Drops CSAC Opener To Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - Going on the road in the CSAC is never easy, and the PBU women's soccer team encountered some rocky terrain at Centenary College on Saturday, losing 8-0 in the conference opener for both teams.

The Crimson Eagles found themselves down right from the start as an unforced turnover in the third minutes led to a Cyclone penalty kick and a 1-0 deficit for PBU.  The Crimson Eagles, however, hung tough after the penalty kick, and the score would remain 1-0 until two late 1st half goals by the Cyclones made it 3-0 at halftime.

"We had a rough start to the game," said coach Dewey Landon.  "The rest of the half, we actually played fairly well and created a few chances to score."

In the 2nd half, Centenary was able to continually rotate fresh players into the game, and PBU was unable to keep up.  While PBU played 16 players, Centenary was able to use 20 players in the game, and the Cyclones were able to find the net five times in the 2nd half to put the game away.

"Centenary has a very deep team, and they wore us down in the 2nd half," said Landon.  "But the ladies kept fighting throughout the 90 minutes."

Centenary outshot PBU 33-3 in the game.

The Crimson Eagles will play at home for their next four games, beginning with Lancaster Bible College in non-league action on Tuesday, September 21 at 4:00 p.m.
