RADNOR, PA - Sitting on the outside bubble looking in with postseason play rapidly approaching, the softball team didn't help their own cause Tuesday afternoon, dropping a pair of CSAC games to Cabrini College.
The Crimson Eagles logged just five base hits during a 7-2 opening game loss as the Cavaliers shut out the visitors in five of seven innings. PBU slipped up three times defensively, a number that led to two unearned runs for the game.
Ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Cabrini knocked across four runs during the stanza to break open the once back-and-forth defensive battle.
In game two, PBU struck first with a single score during the op of the third. The Cavaliers proved resilient by posting a three run stanza during bottom of the inning, but two additional Crimson Eagles scores in the fourth evened things up.
Unfortunately, the same story unfolded during the back end of play as the host group carded three runs in the sixth inning based on two hits and three free passes to first base. Cabrini blanked PBU's offense during the top of the seventh to maintain their 6-3 edge and the victory.
Sara Poole and Caroline DeHart both led PBU offensively with three hits apiece.
Currently just a single spot out of the postseason, the combo of loss drops the Crimson Eagles' conference mark to 6-8 on the year. Cabrini improves to 11-3.
The Crimson Eagles will face Rosemont College on Thursday during an important double-header that could have serious postseason implications. PBU will square off with the Ramblers at home at 3:00 pm.
