BEL AIR, MD - Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Having lost seven of eight and 10 of their last 12, the softball team entered Friday's double-header with the College of Notre Dame in dire need of a pair of triumphs.
Realizing the significance of the match-up, the Crimson Eagles played in "desperate mode," bullying past the Gators in back-to-back games that by and large were controlled by PBU nearly every step of the way.
The visitors wracked up their most dominating performance of the season during the opening outing, drilling 15 hits in 31 at bats to manufacture a 14-1 triumph. Sarah Poole proved to be a force in the batters box, going four for four during the win while churning out six RBI's, three runs, and a walk.
PBU thrower Kim Martin suffocated Notre Dame from the circle all afternoon as the sophomore hurler tossed a three hitter while giving up just two walks. Martin's supporting cast played a superb game defensively as the Crimson Eagles put up a zero in the error column for the first time this season.
The visitors pounded out a 11-3 win during the nightcap as the group kept their efficient work at the plate rolling. PBU ended the contest with a 13-3 edge in total hits while tallying at least three runs during three different innings to help seize their second straight victory over the Gators.
Despite surrendering six walks, senior Kristen Lyszczasz had her best performance of the year from the mound, allowing just three runs on three hits. Caroline DeHart went three for five for the visitors with two ribbies to pave the way offensively.
PBU moves to 7-15 overall on the year with a 4-6 mark in conference play.
The Crimson Eagles will return to the field this weekend during a Saturday match-up with Cedar Crest College at home. Game time is 11:00 am.
