LANGHORNE, PA - The only real silver lining regarding Thursday's double-header with Eastern University? It was a non-conference skirmish.
Visiting Eastern bombed 21 runs during the two game affair and sprinted past PBU by scores of 11-4 and 10-1.
All this despite the fact that the visitors tallied just 14 hits throughout the day, while the Crimson Eagles finished not to far behind with nine.
The difference? To put it simply, walks.
The host group surrendered 18 free passes during 12 defensive innings, while the visiting Eagles gave up just a single walk. It was a number that ultimately provided Eastern with 14 more at bats than PBU in the first game alone as the visitors posted their ninth and tenth triumphs of the season, respectively.
Game one saw Eastern break open a 7-1 edge by the time the fourth inning rolled around as the group piled on a four run first inning. PBU did their best to overcome the early deficit, notching two runs during the bottom of the fifth following senior Kristen Lyszczasz's first career home run, but it wasn't enough during the eventual 11-4 defeat.
Eastern carried their efficient offensive production into the second outing, drilling seven runs throughout the opening four innings to break open a 7-1 advantage for the second straight game. Despite tallying just three hits during the entire contest, Eastern tacked on three more runs before all was said and done to signal just the third time this season the Eagles cracked double-digit runs - and their second of the afternoon. The work of Eastern's Janelle Fair on the mound proved to be effective as the rookie hurler tossed a one run gem that saw her tally a complete game.
Freshman Courtney Erndl paced PBU with a team high mark of three hits for the afternoon.
The Crimson Eagles will return to game action on Friday when the group heads south to take on the College of Notre Dame at 3:30 pm.
