LANGHORNE, PA - Looking to catapult themselves back into the playoff hunt, the Crimson Eagles instead dropped an 82-65 decision at home on Friday as Neumann University proved to be too much during the back end of play.
The visitors rode on the shoulders of senior Sean Armstrong throughout the night, as the 6'3 forward delivered a ginormous 22 point, 20 board effort. Armstrong's production led to a 20-13 edge in offensive rebounds for the evening as Neumann dominated the Crimson Eagles on the interior in the second stanza, amassing a 16-6 edge in points the paint.
Despite the one-sided ending in favor of the Knights, PBU kicked off action with inspired play. After going down 2-0 to start thing off, the host squad rattled off 12 of the next fourteen points to go up 12-4 five minutes into the contest. The Crimson Eagles would slowly see their edge evaporate, however, as Neumann would respond with a 10-2 spurt of their own.
Play remained back-and-forth over the ensuing 10 minutes but things would soon spiral out of control as the Knights would drill five straight three pointers during the last eight minutes of the period. Down 14, PBU would cut the deficit to six at the intermission behind a 8-0 run to close out the half.
With the affair see-sawing back and forth to open up the final 20 minutes, the Crimson Eagles would at one point pull within four with seven minutes remaining. However, it would be as close as the group would get the remainder of the way. The Knights would swell their advantage to as big as 20 points over the next four minutes to close out the game before hanging on for an 82-65 win.
Despite 16 turnovers apiece from both groups, Neumann managed to capitalize when it counted as the visitors held a 25-10 margin in points off the opposition's miscues.
Junior forward Charles Kennedy posted his second career double-double in the loss, finishing the night with 13 points and 11 boards. Senior guard Willie Miller added 12 points on the offensive end while junior Brett Zamroz chipped in with 10.
The Crimson Eagles will return to action on Saturday when the group hosts Keystone College at 4:00 pm.
