PBU Dropped in Overtime

Box Score

KISSIMMEE, FL -
With overtime a reoccurring theme for the men's soccer team in recent weeks, the squad continued the trend into Thursday's match with Dallas Christian College during the second day of the NCCAA National Tournament.

The fourth seeded Crimson Eagles went the distance with the eighth slated Dallas Christian College squad but couldn't overcome their counterpart, eventually falling in overtime to the Crusaders by a 2-1 margin.

Just three minutes into the contest the Crusaders struck paydirt when forward Ryan Olvera knocked a header into the back of the cage to give Dallas an early 1-0 lead.

With the score stuck at 1-0 for the next 48 minutes, it wasn't until PBU freshman forward Gary Bruce logged his team leading 15th goal of the year that the Crimson Eagles where able to get on the board.

Despite several prime opportunities for both squads down the stretch, neither team could crack the other group's defensive code.

Perhaps not surprisingly, PBU found itself once again in another overtime situation. However, this time penalty kicks were not required to determine the victory.

Instead, Dallas forward Gerson Machado ended the contest by tallying the game winning goal six minutes into the first OT.

The Crusaders ultimately ended the contest with a 12-9 advantage in total shots on goal. PBU goalie Dave Shaffer came up with six stops in the losing effort.

The Crimson Eagles will compete in their last game of the season on Saturday, taking on Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College at 10:00 am during the seventh/eighth place game.
