LANGHORNE, PA - First-year forward Gary Bruce proved to be a one man wrecking crew Thursday afternoon, scoring all three PBU goals on the day to help push the host group past visiting Immaculata University, 3-0.
It took until the 53rd minute for Bruce to register his first score of the afternoon, but once the rookie striker cracked the code, there was no stopping him.
Bruce would go on to log two additional goals over the ensuing 27 minutes, bumping PBU's edge to a 3-0 margin in the process. Perhaps the most impressive score of the day was his second in the 72nd minute when Bruce ripped a deep laser beam past Immaculata Chris Raudabaugh off a feed from Cody Mosely.
Bruce's magic came at a much needed time for the host group as PBU was in desperate need of a victory in order to remain in CSAC postseason contention. The triumph puts the Crimson Eagles at 2-2-1 on the year in conference play, good enough for fifth overall out of the 10 team league.
Despite a 7-1 disadvantage in corner kicks taken, the host group outshot the Mighty Macs by a final margin of 16-9, including a 10-5 discrepancy during the second frame.
Justin Hays and Cody Mosely each tallied an assist in the win while first-year keeper Dave Shaffer logged his third shutout of the season.
The Crimson Eagles will turn their attention to NCCAA East Region play this Saturday when the squad hosts Lancaster Bible College in a showdown that has the potential to decide home field advantage during the postseason. Game time against the Chargers is 3:00 pm.
