PBU Escapes Overtime Tussle

Box Score

LANGHORNE, PA -
Despite coming into the game with 24 straight losses against the Crimson Eagles, Valley Forge gave PBU everything they could handle this afternoon, forcing the contest into overtime before losing, 3-2.

After a scoreless opening half, an offensive flurry broke open in the second. Two minutes into the back end of play, Valley Forge's Juan Delcid put the visitors up 1-0 on an unassisted rocket that snuck by PBU keeper Dave Shaffer.

The Crimson Eagles responded less than 10 minutes later when Cody Mosely posted his second career goal after calmly collecting and putting home a cross off a corner. Gary Bruce gave PBU their first lead of the afternoon in the 75th minute, drilling his team leading 11th score of the season in the process.

With the second frame dwindling down, the Patriots proved resilient. A foul in the box with under two minutes remaining gave Valley Forge a penalty kick which Jonathan Costa converted.

Forced to head into extra sessions, PBU went to work. However, it wasn't until 10 ticks left on the clock that the host group was able to finally connect. Junior Justin Hays broke free down the left sideline after beating his defender off the dribble. Facing a one on one situation with Valley Forge keeper Mark Bowman, Hays managed to sneak the ball into the far side of the cage to secure the golden goal and the win.

For the Crimson Eagles, Thursday's triumph means the group will get to face the Patriots once again next Thursday during the East Region Semi-Finals. The Crimson Eagles will host that game starting at 3:00 p.m. with the winner facing the victor of the BBC/LBC game on Saturday in the Championship.

It also gives the group their third triumph in five games following a 2-7-1 start to the season.

The Crimson Eagles will hit the road this Saturday for a match-up with Cabrini College at 4:00 pm.
