LANCASTER, PA - For the first time in eight years, the women's volleyball team has fallen victim to Lancaster Bible College. The Chargers posted a 3-1 victory over their rival, ending a streak that saw PBU amass a 15 game winning streak against their counterpart.
The host group rode behind the tandem effort of juniors Hailee Growden and Peggy Compton as the third year hitters combined for 32 kills and 38 assists throughout the evening.
Lancaster - who is a vastly different team from a year ago - collected their third triumph of the season against a CSAC squad following Tuesday's win. Game scores finished 25-22, 25-14, 19-25, 25-20.
Minus the third frame, the Chargers used an efficient attack to help snag the victory, hitting at a .250 clip during the three sets they secured wins in. The Crimson Eagles did manage seven total team blocks throughout the evening - equating their second greatest number in that category of the season - but were nevertheless hindered by 12 service aces.
Sophomore Rachel Calderon poster her third double-double in four matches and eighth of the year, finishing with 12 kills and 15 digs. Erika Catalano added 14 stops on the defensive end and Rebekah Morrison added 34 assists.
The Crimson Eagles fall to 8-13 on the year while Lancaster moves to 12-16. Additionally, the win locks up home court advantage for the Chargers during the NCCAA East Region playoffs to be held later in the month.
The volleyball team will look to rebound from their current three game skid this Thursday in the Mason Activity Center. PBU will take on Washington Bible College at 7:00 pm.
