NCCAA East Region Clash Ends in Draw

Box Score

LANGHORNE, PA
- Goals usually don't come easy during skirmishes within NCCAA regional play.

Friday proved to be no exception during PBU's NCCAA East Region heavyweight bout with Lancaster Bible College as 110 minutes of gritty action wasn't enough to determine a winner.

Despite numerous scoring opportunities for both squads, neither team could produce any magic on the offense end, leading to PBU's first draw of the season. Even with 14 shots on target from the visitors the Crimson Eagles were unable to come up with the decisive play against the Chargers, marking the first time PBU has failed to upend their longtime rival in six meetings.

The Crimson Eagles let several golden opportunities slip by including a rip that hit the left post late in the second half and another strike that clanked the same post as seconds wore down in the first overtime.

Nonetheless, the group did a tremendous job fending off 11 Charger shots for the day, escaping with the shutout behind a five-save effort from keeper Kristen Lyszczasz, who, despite a sprained thumb, made several gritty plays on the day to keep the game scoreless.

"It was a great game all around," head coach Clay Roberts said following the completion of the match. "We were a couple of posts away from pulling it out but the cards didn't fall our way today. But overall I thought both teams played hard."

PBU would go on to hold a 14-11 edge in shots for the afternoon while keeping a 7-5 margin in corners taken. But with goal scoring troubles an early theme thus far, Friday's contest marks the fifth time this season the Crimson Eagles have failed to tally a single goal.

The tie slides PBU's overall record on the year to 1-6-1 while the Chargers currently sit at 2-5-1.

The Crimson Eagles will get back into CSAC play on the road next week when the group travels to Aston, PA for a night game against Neumann University. Game time against the Knights is set for 7:00 pm.
