LANGHORNE, PA - Excluding a single blip-up to eventual champ Neumann College late last season, it's been over two full years since the volleyball team has dropped a regular season conference match.
On Wednesday, the Crimson Eagles continued their recent dominance within league play, running away with a 3-0 sweep - this time at the expense of Cedar Crest College - in PBU's second CSAC match of the season.
The volleyball team racked up their top hitting percentage thus far against the Falcons, hitting at an extremely efficient clip of .348 to help the group to their 10th win of the season. The Crimson Eagles restricted the Falcons to just seven kills for the entirety of the match and held the group to a -.065 attack rate in Cedar Crest's first conference match of the year.
Somewhat slow out of the gates, PBU soon got things rolling in the first set following a 6-6 deadlock to open things up. A 14-6 burst would quickly change the tide in what ended up being a 25-15 triumph for the host squad.
Determined to put things away early in the second game, the Crimson Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead en route to a 16-3 edge midway through the set. A late Cedar Crest rally would help the Falcons reach double-digits, but it wasn't near enough to overcome the enormous gap during a 25-11 PBU win.
The third and final rally was much of the same story as the Crimson Eagles pounced early, going up 10-1 to kick things off. Down but not out, the visitors would make a commendable run, crawling their way back into the contest following several untimely errors from PBU. The Falcons would get as close as 20-15 before PBU would rattle off a 5-1 spurt to close things out in a 25-16 win.
Lindsay Dager highlighted the offensive barrage for PBU, tallying a game high mark of 11 kills while pummeling the Falcons with a .714 hitting percentage. Carly Plank added nine kills, five digs, and four aces, and Rebekah Morrison chipped in with five kills and two aces. Kay Lynn Zeiset posted a double-double in a 10 assist, 10 dig effort.
PBU moves to 10-6 with a 2-0 mark in the conference while Cedar Crest slips to 3-7 (0-1 CSAC).
The Crimson Eagles will get back into action this Saturday when the group heads to Cabrini College in a huge match-up that has the potential to determine the early season lead within the CSAC race. Game time against the Cavaliers is slated for 10:00 am.
