ANNVILLE, PA - The Crimson Eagles finished their weekend at he Flying Dutchmen Tournament with a .500 record, going 2-2 overall following wins over Misericordia University and Centenary College and losses to the City College of New York and Lebanon Valley College.
Misericordia University became PBU's fifth straight victim Friday evening in the opening round of the Tourney as the Crimson Eagles narrowly edged the Cougars by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-20.
Betsy Ranck tallied 37 assists and Carly Plank finished with a game high mark of 13 kills. Rachel Calderon posted her fourth double-double of the year with 11 kills and 12 digs and Kay Lynn Zeiset added 10 digs and two aces.
However, roles would soon be reversed over PBU's ensuing two matches, beginning with a 3-0 defeat to the City College of New York late Friday evening. The Beavers pumped out their ninth sweep of the season behind scores of 25-23, 25-26, 25-22.
Ranck posted 26 assists and Calderon manufactured a team high eight kills while notching eight stops on the defensive end. Plank added seven kills and two aces and Zeiset finished with a team high nine digs.
In the team's first match on Saturday, the Crimson Eagles dropped a second consecutive 3-0 decision, this time at the hands of host Lebanon Valley College. The Flying Dutchmen, undefeated thus far throughout eight matches, dropped PBU 25-23, 25-16, 25-22.
Ranck ended with 23 assists against LVC and Calderon added a team high seven kills. Zeiset and Plank chipped in with 13 and nine digs, respectively.
PBU finished up the weekend with a narrow triumph against Centenary College, overcoming the Cyclones in a 3-2 battle. Scores were 22-25, 28-26, 18-25, 25-14, 15-6.
Rank had 45 assists and Plank added 14 kills. Rebekah Morrison finished with 11 kills and a game high six aces, and Lindsey Dager added 11 kills and four block assists.
The volleyball team's overall record stands at 9-6 following the .500 weekend. The Crimson Eagles will return to conference play this Wednesday when the group takes on Cedar Crest College in Langhorne at 7:00 pm.
