GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA - After falling for the fourth straight time in their opening contest Friday afternoon, PBU finally held on for a win in game two against conference rival Gwynedd-Mercy College.
The Griffins pulled out a dramatic come-from-behind triumph in the opening contest, drilling in two runs in the bottom of the seventh with two outs to claw past the Crimson Eagles 4-3. Gwynedd senior Ashley Bowie knocked home the game winning run to help give Gwynedd their sixth conference win of the year.
After going down 2-0 in the opening stanza, the Crimson Eagles rallied sparked, in part, by two Griffin errors to take a 3-2 advantage. With a pitching duel enfolding over the next four innings, it took Bowie's clutch hit to finally propel the hosts over the hump and to the one run victory.
In game two, after going down 1-0 early, PBU finally got on the board in the fourth when Kate Suader knocked in two scores to put the Crimson Eagles up 2-1.
The low scoring battle continued throughout the remainder of play as the Giffins struggled to capitalize when opportunity arose, stranding 11 costly runners for the game.
PBU moves to 11-13 overall (8-4 CSAC) with the split while Gwynedd currently stands at 7-19 (6-8 CSAC).
The Crimson Eagles will have the weekend off but will get back in action on Monday, taking on Immaculata University in Langhorne at 3:00 pm.
