LA PLUME, PA - Keystone College proved to be an impossible force to keep off the glass Thursday night during a 74-54 Giant win over PBU.
The Giants rang up a 49-23 edge in boards for the night en route to Keystone's second straight win to open up CSAC play. Keystone used superior size and athleticism to punish the Crimson Eagles with 24 offensive rebounds for the night - giving the host squad more rebounds on the offensive end than PBU generated on both sides of the ball combined throughout the contest.
Despite their significant disadvantage on the boards, the Crimson Eagles somehow stayed with Keystone the majority of the contest thanks, mostly, to an impressive first half shooting performance from the field. The Crimson Eagles knocked down shots at a 50 percent clip during the opening stanza and were aided by a pitiful performance at the free throw line from the Giants (3-14) for the game.
The host squad would take a 31-22 lead into the break after running off an 8-2 spurt to close out the half and would quickly expand the edge to 20 early in the second. But a consistent Crimson Eagle push would cut the deficit to single digits with eight minutes remaining before a series of deep triples would ultimately bury PBU and seal the game.
Senior Ben Fuller provided 17 points for the Crimson Eagles while third-year guard Jared Fulton added 10. Senior Brandon Gregg added eight points and four boards and classmate Willie Miller chipped in with nine points, six assists, four rebounds, and three steals.
PBU will continue the program's search for their first ever CSAC win this Saturday when the group hosts Gwynedd-Mercy College in the Mason Activity Center on Saturday. Game time against the Griffins is slated for 4:00 pm.
