GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA - Gwynedd-Mercy College used a 59 point outburst in the first half to help the Griffins to a 92-64 victory Thursday evening over the Crimson Eagles in CSAC action.

Gwynedd connected on nine of 17 first half threes to help build a 28 cushion over the course of the opening 20 minutes of play. Fourteen different Griffin players found the scoring column throughout the night, with Dave Smith spearheading an efficient attack that saw the 6'7 senior forward hit for 18 points on 9-11 shooting to go with seven boards and four assists.

In a fast-paced and up tempo game, the Crimson Eagles struggled to keep up with the host squad’s hot hand early on. After going up 2-0 in the first minute of action, PBU watched Gwynedd roll off 13 straight points over the next four minutes. An eight-foot jumper from senior forward Austin McCardle capped a 7-0 run for the Crimson Eagles to slash the discrepancy to 13-9, but seven three pointers over the next 10 minutes of play from the Griffins would blow the game open as Gwynedd-Mercy enjoyed a sizable 59-31 gap at the half.

The hosts continued their offensive barrage early in the second stanza, at one point extending the margin to as great as 38 points with six minutes left. Down 89-51, PBU’s defense would allow just one bucket over the final six minutes of play as the Crimson Eagles would dwindle the margin to 92-64 by the final horn.

Gwynedd-Mercy enjoyed significant statistical advantages in several key categories, including a whopping 25-3 edge in points off turnovers in the first half alone. The Griffins also held a 40-20 margin in points in the paint for the game.

Senior forward Tom Arthur led the way for PBU, registering his third straight double with 19 points and 12 boards - six coming on the offensive glass. Senior forward Jon Delgado chipped in with nine points and a career-high eight boards, while classmate Mike Phillips added nine points off of three triples.

The Crimson Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they host Neumann College in the Mason Activity Center at 7:00 pm.
