PHOENIXVILLE, PA – In PBU’s last tune-up before conference play, Brittany Sparling’s header off a corner kick from freshman Renee Frenk helped give the Crimson Eagles a 2-1 victory over host Valley Forge Christian College Wednesday afternoon.
Entering the contest winless on the road thus far this season, the Crimson Eagles managed to slip past the Patriots by notching solo scores in both halves.
Junior Christine Schmidt connected midway through the first half for her first score of the season, but a Valley Forge goal in the opening stanza left things deadlocked one-all at halftime.
With play stalled midway through second half, Sparling’s second goal of the season proved to be the game-clincher as the senior forward nailed home a header, slipping the game winning score past Patriot sophomore keeper Kaitlyn Antolic to give PBU a one goal victory.
The Crimson Eagles improve to 2-4 overall on the season with the win while Valley Forge falls to 3-4.
With their final non-conference tune-up complete, the Crimson Eagles will get their first crack at CSAC competition this Saturday on the road when the squad takes on the College of Notre Dame in Maryland (0-4). Game time against the Gators is set for 3:00 pm.
