GLENSIDE, PA - It might not have been quite as dominating a performance as Saturday's 7-2 drubbing against Baptist Bible College, but, as the old saying goes, a win is a win.
Jake Miller's goal eight minutes into the second half was all that was needed in PBU's 1-0 victory on the road against Arcadia University Tuesday afternoon. Miller cleaned up and put away a Jeremy Dunham corner kick to tally the games' only score, giving the junior defender his second score in as many games.
Although it most definitely wasn't PBU's most impressive outing of the year - they were out shot by the Knights 17-7 for the contest - Miller's score was enough to propel the Crimson Eagles' to their second consecutive victory, pulling the squad's overall record to 2-3 for the season.
"It wasn't our best game so far this year, let's just say that," noted head coach Clay Roberts following Tuesday's contest. "But there's a saying I like to use in these types of situations. Good teams find a way to win, which I feel like is what we were able to do today."
With play remaining relatively even through the first 45 minutes of play, Miller's score early in the second period sparked a somewhat frenetic effort from Arcadia. The Knights fired 12 shots in the latter half alone, giving the Crimson Eagle defense and PBU keeper Andy Ecker all they could handle.
Thankfully, no Aracdia blasts found the back of the net as the Crimson Eagles held on for their first shutout of the season behind eight saves from Ecker.
“Sometimes you just have to battle through games like this, plain and simple,” said Roberts. “I’m just happy we were able to walk out of here with a win.”
PBU will wrap up play this week in the last contest of a three-game road trip on Saturday, traveling to Phoenixville to go up against Valley Forge Christian College (3-2). Game time against the Patriots is 3:00 pm.
