ASTON, PA -
When you're on the bubble fighting for your playoff life, it can't get much worse to open a game than it did for PBU against Neumann College on Saturday.
The Knight's Jesse Urquhart had an incredible ten minute span to open the all-important contest, recording a hat-trick within the first 10 minutes action. Urquhart, who came into the match averaging 1.38 points an outing, notched his seventh, eighth, and ninth goals of the season to help bury the visiting squad early in Neumann's 6-2 drubbing of the Crimson Eagles.
Neumann would add two additional scores before the end of the half, and at one point midway through the second stanza led 6-0. This, all, despite the fact that statistically the teams weren't all that separated. The hosts held just a 19-13 shot discrepancy for the game and just a 4-3 margin in corners taken.
PBU senior Jeremy Dunham was the only Crimson Eagle to find the back of the net on the day, as Dunham managed his ninth and 10th goals of the season to help the visitors avoid their third shutout loss of the season.
The loss serves as a major setback for the Crimson Eagles in their struggle for a post-season bid, as PBU will most likely need to defeat first place Cabrini College on Tuesday in order to have a shot at advancing, depending on what happens in the proceeding days with both Centenary College and Gwynedd-Mercy College.
The Crimson Eagles slip to 6-10 (3-4 CSAC) with the loss, while Neumann improves to 6-9-1 (4-2 CSAC).
Pending miraculous meltdowns from Centenary and Gwynedd-Mercy, PBU is in a must win situation when the team goes up against Cabrini College at home this Tuesday. The Crimson Eagles will take on the Cavaliers at 4:00 pm.
