KISSIMMEE, FL - For the second time in consecutive years, Southeastern University got the better end of PBU.
The defending NCCAA champions overcame the Crimson Eagles 3-2 in this year's semifinal match-up to advance the Fire into the title game. It marks the second successive season that Southeastern has escaped with a one goal advantage over the Crimson Eagles, all-the-while ending PBU's title hopes in the process.
In a contest that was all-too reminiscent of last season's championship match, the Crimson Eagles once again stayed close but fell just short to the 16-4-1 Fire. Tied 1-1 at halftime, Southeastern took advantage of several PBU defensive lapses to score twice in the first 1:31 of the second half. Down two goals and with their championship hopes on the line, the Crimson Eagle offense could only churn out one goal late in the half en route to the team's disappointing 3-2 loss.
Sophomore midfielder Graham Foster scored his 5th goal of the year for the Crimson Eagles, while senior forward Dan Schlegel netted his 13th of the season to help keep PBU close.
PBU will have to play their consolation match on Monday without the services of senior defender Jon Waszaj, who had to leave Saturday's game midway through the second half due to a broken fibula.
The Crimson Eagles will suit up to take in Clearwater Christian College in the third place match two days from now. The Cougars enter the contest with an overall record of 17-3-2. Match time is set for 2:00 pm.
