Cairn University Director of Athletics David Babb has announced the hiring of Kevin Smith to be Cairn's next Women's Soccer Head Coach.

Smith enters his first year in the collegiate ranks after a 21-year career as the Head Girls Soccer Coach at Mansfield High School (Mansfield, MA) at where he was a four-time league champion ('16, '17, '18, '24), two-time state sectional champion ('23, '24), and has been named Coach of the Year five times (Boston Globe - 2023, MIAA - 2023, HockomockSports.com - 2023, 2016, EMGSCA - 2015). In addition to league and sectional championships, his teams have received numerous awards from United Soccer Coaches including the National Team Academic Award (2004, 2006-2023), National Team Ethics Award (2016-2023), and National Team Pinnacle Award (2023).

Off of the High School pitch, Smith has decades of coaching experience with NEFC as the U19 boys Massachusetts State Cup Semifinalists in 2023 and 2024, as well as a coach & educator for US Soccer in Massachusetts, and Technical Director & coach at Nova Premier Soccer Club.

Smith played collegiate soccer at The College of New Jersey from 1991-1994, playing every position except goalkeeper in his time with the Lions. He was a team captain, NJAC Champion (1994), and made an appearance all four years in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament as a finalist in 1991 and semifinalist in 1994. He was recognized as an Adidas/NSCAA Regional Academic All-American Honorable Mention while also serving on the Ethics Committee of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. 

He obtained his Masters in Education from Bridgewater State University in 2003 before taking over his previous role with Mansfield High School.

On Smith taking over the Women's Soccer program, Director of Athletics David Babb remarked, "I am extremely excited to have Kevin Smith lead as our next women's soccer coach. His aim is to build teams marked by humility, resilience, and unity and he strives to create an environment where student-athletes grow not only in technical skill and tactical understanding, but also in leadership, academic diligence, and Christlike character. He has shared his passion for leading program where Christ is first and where young women are equipped to lead, serve, and persevere beyond soccer."
