Ed Howell

Ed Howell begins his second year in the dugout at Cairn University as the head softball coach for the 2013 spring season.

Possessing an extensive athletic background, Howell's wide-ranging career has seen him coach baseball, basketball, and softball in addition to working as a PGA golf professional for 13 years.

Currently the Director of Athletics for the Tri-County Homeschool Athletic Association (TCHSA) - a post he has occupied since founding the association in 2002 - Howell's true love remains in teaching softball.

In addition to his duties as a high school coach, he has spent a number of years coaching multiple travel teams in South Jersey. Howell has served time with the Dragon Fire (14U), SJ Swat (18U), and West Deptford Storm (12U) throughout an eight year span.

"I am extremely excited about taking over the head softball coaching position at Cairn and am thankful for the opportunity given to me," Howell reflected following his hiring. "I am looking forward to coaching at the collegiate level and feel especially blessed to be coaching at a Christian university."

Growing up in Swedesboro, NJ, Howell was a four sport athlete at Kingsway High School. An avid golfer, he received his Class A PGA certification in 1980 and, at one point, even starred in his own cable golf instruction show.

In addition to his responsibilities with TCHSA, Howell works as a chief financial officer at Quint Company located in Philadelphia. Additionally, he's the founder of a part-time business called "Howell To Sports", a company that offers a wide selection of baseball and softball training equipment for players and coaches alike.

Howell took over a program which finished 2010 with a 1-27 record and improved on that in his first season in charge, 2012, with a record of 5-35.

Howell and his wife, Diane, have seven children, ages 13 to 29. They currently reside in Clarkboro, New Jersey.
