Cairn (4-2 / 0-0 United East) traded blows early with Centenary (1-4 / 0-0 Atlantic East). The Cyclones and Highlanders found themselves tied at 11 until Cairn strung together 8 straight points including 4 consecutive aces by sophomore opposite
Bella Manthe (Manila, Philippines / Faith Academy) to build a comfortable lead, after Centenary responded Cairn scored 6 out of the next 8 points to close the set 25-15.
Set number 2 was another comfortable win for Cairn, with sophomore outside hitter
Marah Lehman (Chambersburg, PA / Chambersburg) collecting 5 kills in the set, and senior outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) recording 4 kills of her own to help the Highlander cause.
In the 3rd set the Cyclones went out in front early on, leading the Highlanders 12-9. Cairn used a 5 point run to claim the lead, spearheaded by a pair of aces by freshman defensive specialist
Molly Helms (Hilton Head Island, SC / Hilton head Prep). The Cyclones bounced back with a 4-point run of their own, and the 2 teams exchanged points until Cairn won the final 3 points of the match to claim set number 3 25-23.
Cairn will return to the court Thursday September 17th when they go on the road to play Ursinus.
