SB: Highlanders Stampede Past Bison

Langhorne, PA - Highlanders sweep Double-header with Gallaudet

Game 1:
Game one of this United East Conference Double-header started out slow with both teams having a runner reach base in the first inning but neither runner made it past 2nd base. Senior pitcher Sydney Wright (Souderton, PA / Souderton Area) kept the Bison bats at bay in the second, retiring the Gallaudet (4-11 / 0-5 UNITED EAST) hitters in order. In the bottom of the second a pair of walks and 2 singles pushed 2 runs across the plate for Cairn (6-12 / 3-3 UNITED EAST) giving the Highlanders an early lead. Wright kept rolling in the 3rd inning striking out 2 batters on her way to retiring 3 straight Bison batters. The Highlanders scored 3 runs in the bottom of the third including 2 runs driven in by Wright on a 2 out triple. The Bison rallied in the 4th getting 2 runners on base but Wright navigated out of the jam and maintained her shutout. Sophomore center fielder Korina Feliciano (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill West) padded the Highlander lead by blasting a solo home run over the left-field fence to push the Cairn lead to 6. In he top of the 5th Wright once again sat down 3 Gallaudet batters in order. In the bottom half of the frame The Highlanders rallied, loading the bases for sophomore first-baseman Riley Curtis (Newark, DE / Odessa) who walked the game off with a single to give Cairn an 8-0 lead which ended the game due to the mercy rule.

Game 2:
Cairn jumped out to an early lead again scoring 4 runs in the first inning after holding Gallaudet scoreless in the top half. The top of the second saw the Bison once again get 2 runners on base but fail to get them around to score. The bottom of the inning saw the Highlanders tack on 2 more runs. The 3rd and 4th innings saw both team's bats go silent with neither team scoring a run in those 2 frames. The Bison finally broke the seal and scored their first runs of the afternoon, getting 3 runners across the plate in the top of the 5th. The Highlanders responded in the bottom half with Cairn recording 6 hits and scoring 5 runs in the inning including a 2 RBI double by Curtis to walk off the Bison for a second time in one afternoon

Cairn will return to action Tuesday April 7th when they travel to Penn State Berks for United East double-header.
