WBB: Cairn Overcome by Penn State Abington

Abington, PA – Cairn drops conference game 53-82.

Cairn (2-13 / 1-6 UNITED EAST) got a strong start from sophomore forward Lexi Cramer (Greenwood, DE / Greenwood Mennonite) who scored the first 4 Highlander points. The Highlanders kept the game close at the beginning with a layup by junior forward Dezaray Bright (Keystone Heghts, FL | Keystone Heights) to make the game 8-10. Penn State Abington (11-6 / 4-2 UNITED EAST) took cntrol of the game from here going on a 15-0 run to end the first quarter. The Highlander's struggled early in the second allowing 7 more consecutive points by Penn State Abington before Bright tipped in a missed Highlander shot to break the scoreless spell. A pair of Highlanders  junior forward Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) and freshman forward Maddy Birth (Shickshinny, PA / Cross Creek Christian) scored 4 points each late in the half to send the Highlanders to the break trailing 48-20. 

Once again Cramer had a hot start to a half, registering the first 5 Highlander points in the second half. Bright also registered 5 points in the 3rd to try and keep the game close and the Lions were only able to increase their lead by one in the third frame. 5th year guard Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) sunk two 3-pointers late in th fourth quarter, but the Highlanders had already fallen too far behind and fell by a score of 82-53


Cairn will return home to host Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday January 24th at 3 PM
