WBB: Cairn Comes Up Short Against Penn State Brandywine

Langhorne, PA – Cairn falls just short against Penn State Brandywine, losing 61-55

Cairn (1-11 / 0-5 UNITED EAST) started the game by trading baskets with Penn State Brandywine (2-12 / 2-2 UNITED EAST) a pair of made free throws by freshman guard Peyton Magie (Chesterfield, NJ / New Jersey United Christian Academy) gave the Highlanders a 12-10 lead with under a minute left in the first quater but 4 straight points from the Nittney Lions left Cairn trailing by 2 after the first. Another pair of Highlander free throws tied the game early in the 2nd, this time the shooter was junior forward Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy). After this quick start to the quarter Penn State Brandywine took control leading by as many as 8 before Brittin scored a layup to cut the lead to 6 entering the half.

The Highlanders struggled early in the second half allowing the Brandywine lead to stretch to 14 points before battling back to cut the deficit to 6 on another Brittin layup. Penn State Brandywine stretched the lead again early in the 4th leading at one point by 13 in the final frame. After made free throws by Magi, and Brittin the lead shrank to 5 but this was as close as the Highlanders got, falling to the Nittney Lions 61-55 after a buzzer beating 3-pointer by Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) cut the lead to 6 as time expired.

The Highlanders will return to action Thursday January 15th in a non-conference match-up with Wilson College at 6 PM.
