LA PLUME, PA – Cairn Women's Volleyball won their eighth-straight match on Tuesday night, their longest streak of victories in over ten years, dating back to twelve in-a-row during the 2013 season.
Freshman outside hitter
Marah Lehman (Chambersburg, PA / Chambersburg) had the first kills of the night for the Highlanders, following up with a solo block to claim the advantage in the early points. Keystone (1-13 / 0-2 UNITED EAST) rallied briefly with two aces to tie the set, 9-9, before freshman opposite
Bella Manthe (Manila, Philippines / Faith Academy) threw down a kill and scored an ace. Sophomore middle
Maddie Shackelford (Warrington, PA / Plumstead Christian) earned the serve back for Cairn (11-2 / 2-0 UNITED EAST) with two kills, 16-14, as Manthe paved the road to the set victory with three kills late, teaming up with Shackelford to send back the final point, 25-22.
Cairn ran the table in the second set, opening on a 12-3 run with pairs of aces and kills by Shackelford. Keystone struggled to find a spark with two kills from junior middle
Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) holding them down. Lehman added two more kills as sophomore libero
Liliana Magazzu (Reading, PA / Exeter) did her thing from the service line, acing two serves. With Manthe securing set point, Thorpe blocked back the final point for a dominating 25-12 win.
Lehman had four of the Highlanders' five points to start the third frame in the form of kills with Shackelford and Thorpe continuing to put on the pressure (10-6). The Giants took their first lead of the night, 13-12, on back-to-back kills before Shackelford and Lehman threw another round of attacks down to the floor on the Keystone side. Cairn would rally late with six unanswered points to win the match in sweeping fashion, 25-16.
Manthe recorded career-highs in kills (12) and points (15), adding an ace and three blocks. Lehman was also in double figures with 11 kills and as many digs. Shackelford put together 9.5 points in the form of six kills, three aces, and a block assist. Magazzu and junior setter
Anna Dow (Syracuse, NY / Faith Heritage) also had three aces, Dow setting up 32 assists.
The Highlanders went for 11 aces on the night, their sixth game this season with more than 10 aces in a match.
With Tuesday night's win, the Women's Volleyball squad secured their eighth-straight victory, their longest winning streak since 2013 where the Highlanders won twelve straight ahead of the conference tournament.
Cairn will go for another on Thursday night at Lancaster Bible, matching up with the 6-9 Chargers at 7 p.m.
