LANGHORNE, PA -- Cairn Women's Volleyball faced off against Bryn Mawr on Saturday, taking yet another sweep for their fifth-straight win.
The first set started off even, neither team taking an advantage until Cairn (8-2) took the serve at 6-6 with freshman outside hitter
Marah Lehman (Chambersburg, PA / Chambersburg) taking two aces back-to-back to give the Highlanders a 10-6 lead. Bryn Mawr (3-6) found their footing again until junior setter
Anna Dow (Syracuse, NY / Faith Heritage) helped swing the momentum, giving Cairn a 19-12 lead. The Owls pushed to make a comeback but fell short as junior middle
Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) claimed the set with the final kill, 25-16.
The second frame started off strong in favor of the Highlanders. Sophomore libero
Liliana Magazzu (Reading, PA / Exeter Township) teamed up with Lehman and junior outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) to give Cairn a 6-1 lead early. The Owls did not give up, forcing several errors to crawl back and take the lead 13-12. Dow found a spark and took control back with two aces, an assist and a kill. Cairn gained the momentum they needed, going ahead 19-17. After a massive block from freshman opposite Bella Mantha (Manila, Philippines / Faith Academy) and sophomore middle Maddie Shackleford (Warrington, PA / Plumstead Christian ) Cairn rallied together and went on a six point run to take the set 25-17.
Cairn opened the final set with kills from Magazzu and Dow, forcing two errors by the Owls. Bryn Mawr quickly rallied back with 4 straight kills, then going on a streak of five kills as they found themselves ahead 14-10. The Highlands reapplied pressure, forcing error after error in a run to go back up 15-14. The Owls returned the favor with 6 points, going ahead one last time, 20-17. Manthe took the set by storm, forcing errors until Thorpe called game with the final two kills, making the third set score 25-21.
Lehman led the team in kills with 9 as Magazzu got 4 aces. Manthe and Shackleford teamed up and got the teams 3 blocks. Dow added 25 assists as Dahn lead the team in digs with 7.
Cairn will host Gwynedd Mercy on Thursday in Langhorne at 7 p.m.
