WVB: Lehman Shines in Debut as Highlanders Sweep Abington

LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Women's Volleyball got started with the annual Bucks & Montgomery Kickoff Classic on Friday night, sweeping Penn St. Abington to win their fourth-straight opening night victory.

Cairn (1-0) had control out of the gate, running ahead 8-3 behind the serve of junior setter Anna Dow (Syracuse, NY / Faith Heritage) with an ace. Sophomore middle blocker Maddie Shackelford (Warrington, PA / Plumstead Christian) got to work as the Highlanders went on an 11-3 run as she sent over two kills and a block. Entering the final points, freshman setter Bella Manthe (Manila, Philippines / Faith Academy) had two kills along with the set-winning ace to take the first frame 25-16.

The Nittany Lions held the advantage early in set two, albeit by a small margin before Manthe got back in the groove with a kill and pair of aces from the service line to even the score 8-8. Junior outside hitter Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) added a kill and an ace to keep the lead as freshman outside hitter Marah Lehman (Chambersburg, PA / Chambersburg) threw down four kills to help hurry the set along and win 25-17.

Manthe added two more aces to start the third as Cairn was in the lead 10-8 before Lehman went for a run of four kills on her own to push ahead 15-11, then adding three aces in-a-row to extend the lead 20-13. Sophomore libero Liliana Magazzu (Reading, PA / Exeter) took over the serve late in the set, getting the job done with three aces to close the match, 25-16.

Lehman put on a show in her collegiate debut with sixteen kills, 20.5 points and four aces on .433% hitting. Dahn had eight kills and two aces while Manthe had five aces and six kills, all three in double-digits for points. Dow helped out with a career-high 32 aces.

Cairn will make their season debut in Langhorne on Saturday, taking on Mount St. Vincent and Centenary in tri-match action.
