CHAMBERSBURG, PA – Cairn Women's Basketball closed out their season on the road at Wilson on Saturday, dropping the season finale, 71-54.
Early threes from the hand of senior guard
Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) kept the Highlanders in the game through the first quarter as Wilson (10-15 / 9-7 UNITED EAST) put up 22 points in the frame. As the Phoenix lead reached double figures, Cairn (1-21 / 0-16 UNITED EAST) found themselves in a scoring drought besides another three from Sobrino and lone free throw by sophomore forward
Dezaray Bright (Keystone Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) as Wilson held a 33-18 lead twenty minutes in.
Sobrino cashed in twice from three with a layup in between to open the second half, giving a spark to the offense. Bright joined in, scoring a layup with a foul for a three-point play and two more buckets by Sobrino as the lead was cut to eight. It wouldn't be long before Wilson made threes to push the lead right back up to fifteen as the game entered the fourth quarter.
Another three from Sobrino got Cairn back in the game momentarily before the Phoenix cemented a seventeen-point lead with neither team scoring in the final two minutes of the game. Wilson came away with a 71-54 victory as Cairn ended their season.
An even thirty points for Sobrino closed out her season, scoring six three-pointers along with seven rebounds and four steals. Bright had another double-double of seventeen points and thirteen rebounds.
