MIDDLETOWN, PA – Cairn Women's Volleyball took on top seeded Penn St. Harrisburg on Tuesday night for the United East Semifinal on the road, falling 3-0 to end their season.
The Nittany Lions opened on a dominant 16-2 run, separated by kills from freshman outside hitter
Marah Lehman (Chambersburg, PA / Chambersburg). Penn St. Harrisburg (21-5 / 10-1 UNITED EAST) continued to run away as Lehman totaled four kills in the frame, ending 25-9 in favor of the Nittany Lions.
After another early run by the hosts, Lehman added two more kills with an ace by freshman opposite
Bella Manthe (Manila, Philippines / Faith Academy) as the Highlanders faced a 19-9 deficit. As Penn St. Harrisburg kept climbing, Lehman got back to work with another kill followed by two kills from junior outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Faith Heritage) before Harrisburg took the set 25-13.
Manthe opened the third frame with a kill and solo block to briefly keep the score tied out of the gate before the Nittany Lions ran on ahead 8-2. Lehman had the next three kills for Cairn (17-8 / 7-3 UNITED EAST) to make it 11-5. Junior middle
Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) added two kills to pause the run as Lehman finished the night with three more and the Highlanders falling 25-12 in the set.
Lehman led the team one last time this season with a game-high 13 kills and game-high 10 digs. Manthe once again ran the setting duties and tallied thirteen assists.
With their efforts this season, Cairn reached the semifinal round of the conference tournament for the first time while apart of the United East, finishing with the second most wins in a season since 2013.
