WBB: Highlanders Drop Second Game of Purchase Panther Classic

PURCHASE, NY – The Highlanders dropped their final game of the Purchase Panther Classic against the hosting Purchase College Panthers, 77-44 on Saturday.
 
Junior forward Laryssa Robinson (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Life Center) got the Highlanders started with two quick buckets out of the gate, classmate Dezaray Bright (Keyston Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) adding a layup to keep Cairn (0-2 / UNITED EAST) in the lead early. The Panthers would score a pair of layups and a three to grab the lead as Robinson responded with a three to keep pace. Sophomore forward Lexi Cramer (Greenwood, DE / Greenwood Mennonite) added a bucket to keep the lead at four before Purchase (1-1 / SKYLINE) went on to score ten answered points to close the frame ahead 25-11.
 
The Panthers kept building to the lead, holding Cairn scoreless for almost five minutes as fifth year guard Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) broke the drought with a three. Junior forward Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) would score a layup and jump shot as the Purchase lead grew to twenty at the half.
 
Cairn struggled to get going out of the break as Bright and senior guard Tatiana Ipri (Mullica Hill, NJ / Gloucester Co. Christian) had the first two scores for the Highlanders in the second half. Purchase went 5-8 from behind the arc in the third quarter, extending their lead to 31 entering the fourth.
 
The Highlanders would have their best quarter of the day in the closing frame as Bright and Sobrino had six points apiece, freshman guard Olivia Logan (Cherry Hill, NJ / Camden County College) adding a jump shot before Purchase closed it would with a 77-44 win.
 
Sobrino and Bright led the Highlanders with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Brittin grabbed a career-high and game-high 16 boards.
 
Cairn will host Penn St. Hazelton on Friday for their home opener to begin their three-game homestand.
