WVB: Immaculata Spoils Senior Night in Highlanders' Final Regular Season Home Match

LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Women's Volleyball held their final home match of the regular season against Immaculata, recognizing their three graduating seniors & their families pre-game, before dropping the match in four sets.

Before the action, seniors Payton Cline (Falling Waters, WV / Heritage Academy), Abigail Di Sipio (East Earl, PA / Homeschool), and Delaney Hollenbeck (Kingsley, PA / Lackawanna College) were recognized, in the presence of their families, for their leadership and dedication to the Women's Volleyball program over their Highlander careers.

As the seniors took the floor, Immaculata (10-14 / 3-1 ATLANTIC EAST) took control, extending up to a four-point lead with a few kills to get the night started, 10-6. With freshman opposite Bella Manthe (Manila, Philippines / Faith Academy) scattering two kills, the Mighty Macs pushed ahead by seven, 17-10, After a  block from junior setter Anna Dow (Syracuse, NY / Faith Heritage), Immaculata ran ahead 22-13, pushing the pace as the set came down to the wire. Freshman outside hitter Marah Lehman (Chambersburg, PA / Chambersburg) fired off three kills to cut the lead to 23-18. Sophomore middle Maddie Shackelford (Warrington, PA / Plumstead Christian) took over with a kill and three blocks as well as the Highlanders came within one (24-23). A kill for the Mighty Macs lifted them to a 1-0 set lead.

During the first set, Payton Cline become the sixth Highlander in program history to reach the 1,000 career dig benchmark, scooping up the three kills she needed coming into the night in the first set.

The Mighty Macs kept their momentum through the second set, opening on a 14-3 run as the Highlanders looked to spark the offense. Three Cairn (16-6 / 7-2 UNITED EAST) kills gave a glimpse of hope, but Immaculata powered to the finish, 25-11.

Cairn would go running early in the third set, stringing five points together, two of which were blocks by Dow and junior middle Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) together (10-6). The Mighty Macs would take their turn, scoring five-straight to take over the lead, 13-11. As Immaculata kept pushing, Dow and Manthe each added another kill. Manthe took the serve and with two aces from her and a pair of kills by junior outside hitter Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy), the Highlanders took the third set, 25-20.

Immaculata put themselves ahead 11-6 before a kill by Thorpe and another ace from Manthe narrowed the margin to 11-10. As Dahn took the serve and delivered two aces, Cairn found themselves back in the drivers' seat. Two late runs by the Mighty Macs would go unanswered as Immaculata took the match by a set four score of 25-19.

Dahn and Lehman both had seven kills, the former with two aces and team-high 12 digs. Manthe added six kills with three aces for nine points as well. Dow and Shackelford each had four blocks at the net while sophomore libero Liliana Magazzu (Reading, PA / Exeter) drilled six aces.

Cairn will close the regular season on the road in a conference match at Notre Dame (MD) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
