WBB: Basketball Drops Battle with Marywood

LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Women's Basketball was on the road for their fourth straight contest, dropping their matchup 77-52.

Marywood (5-1) opened on three straight layups before sophomore forward Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / The Pilgrim Academy) scored her first collegiate points to get the Highlanders on the board. As the Pacers pressed the lead to double digits, senior guard Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) reigned them in with three triples to end the quarter, 18-12.

Sobrino buried another three out of the gate in the second quarter as sophomore forward Dezaray Bright (Keystone Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) got herself in the scoring column with a jumpshot and pair of free throws. Sobrino scored a layup with the deficit now at ten before halftime.

Opening the third quarter, Brittin made a layup with the foul for a three-point play and a layup from Bright. Sobrino scored the next seven points for Cairn (1-4) as the Pacers pressed and pace and lead to twenty.

Senior guard Abi Whitmore (Candor, NY / Little Tree) and junior guard Tatiani Ipri (Mullica Hill, NJ / Gloucester County Christian) each scored in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter followed by another three from the hand of Sobrino. The Highlanders would not be able to overcome the Marywood lead and dropped the battle, 77-52.

Sobrino finished with 33 points, a career and game high, tallying six three-pointers, and 5-5 from the free throw line. Brittin had seven points in her debut, grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.

Cairn will be on the road once more on Saturday at Bryn Mawr before the home opener on Tuesday hosting Valley Forge.
