WVB: Volleyball Sweeps in Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Cairn Women's Volleyball moved to 2-0 in conference play on Saturday, sweeping Penn College in straight sets, 25-9, 25-14, and 25-17.

After the first two points, Cairn (9-2 / 2-0 United East) went on a twelve-point run behind the serve of junior libero Payton Cline (Falling Waters, WV / Heritage Academy) in which senior opposite Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) tallied four kills. Following a point from Penn College (3-14 / 1-2 United East), the Highlanders got the serve back for freshman defensive specialist Liliana Magazzu (Reading, PA / Exeter) who dropped in three aces pushing Cairn's lead to 19-4. Never looking back, senior outside hitter Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) finished off the set, holding the Wildcats to single digits, 25-9.

Opening up the second set, Penn College kept things closer until Peabody added two more to help pull away, 17-11. Sophomore middle Madison Delp (York, PA / Clarks Summit University) sparked a rally with a kill to get Cairn to 23-13 as Peabody and junior outside hitter Abigail Di Sipio (East Earl, PA / Homeschool) finished off the set with kills, 25-14.

In the third set, Cairn opened ahead 7-1 as Cline had a pair of aces on the run. The Wildcats cut the lead to one and kept the distance close. Sophomore outside hitter Madison Searls (Seaford, DE / Salisbury Christian) had back-to-back aces to bring the lead back to four. Magazzu adder her career-high fourth ace in the third set to help close this one out, 25-17.

Peabody finished with 11 kills while sophomore middle Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) had eight, each with a block assist. Magazzu finished with a game & career-high 4 aces while Cline, Conrad, and Searls each had a pair.
